PRESCOTT – Leslie Hughes called it a fluke.
The fluke was getting 168 books valued at more than $3,000 for little of nothing from the Ferncliff Warehouse in Little Rock. The books, Jim Carrey’s “How Roland Rolls”, were given to students in Prescott Elementary School’s kindergarten and first grade Wednesday afternoon. A total of 16 volunteers, eight from Hamilton Haven and eight from First United Methodist Church, read a prepared script to the students in their classrooms as they handed out the books.
The children can take the books home with them as they’re theirs to keep. Hughes said three boxes were purchased with Ferncliff officials donating the rest saying it was for a good cause. She said it is hoped this can be done again next year and become an annual thing at the end of each school year.
As a side note, most of the volunteers had ties to the Prescott School District in the past. Once done, the volunteers were presented books as well. One was a coffee recipe book and the other a copy of Carrey’s book.
